Northwest Missouri Welcomes New High Schools Into the Connect! Network

Comprehensive, Web-Based Solution for College Planning, Admissions and Financial Aid Proliferates in the State of Missouri

Boston, MA -March 5, 2007- Northwest Missouri State University is leading the initiative to provide Connect! - a comprehensive web solution for college planning, admissions and financial aid – to ALL high school students throughout Northwest Missouri, Southwest Iowa, Southeast Nebraska, and Northeast Kansas. In the last week, seven new high schools in Northwest Missouri have adopted Connect! and will begin deploying the solution to their students. The latest high schools to join the Connect! network include Central, Fairfax, King City, Platte County, Rockport, Smithton, and West Nodaway. These high schools join more than 75 high schools across the state that have deployed Connect!.

Northwest Missouri State University has continued to encourage other state universities and Missouri high schools to join the efforts in streamlining the admissions process for the entire state of Missouri. “Northwest Missouri State University is committed to being on the cutting edge of providing our applicants with the best college planning and application process that we can possibly offer,” said Bev Shenkel, Dean, Enrollment Management at Northwest Missouri State.

With the Connect! platform, students in Missouri are, for the first time, systematically connected as high schools throughout Northwest Missouri can now send electronic documents to Northwest Missouri State University, as well as other college partners in Missouri including Truman State University, Missouri State University, and community college partners in Missouri including Kansas City Metropolitan Community Colleges, Ozarks Technical Community College, Moberly Area Community College and St. Charles Community College. “With the Connect! platform linked to our high school and community college partners, we will have additional capacity to effectively guide students, provide a meaningful benefit to their counselors or advisors and demonstrate a more efficient admission process for all involved,” said Shenkel.

In addition to the paperless network that Connect! is creating in Missouri, additional key benefits of using Connect! include:

- Save between $14-$25 in processing expenses per application
- Receive a True Electronic Transcript™ with actual data points that are sent directly into a college/university SIS system to be stored, viewed, or printed
- 95% savings in application related labor
- Automated GPA recalculation
- Track student retention from Connect! data

Based on current high school implementations in Missouri, Missouri colleges and universities will save $4.5 million dollars this year. “We are committed to working with Northwest Missouri State and its partner high schools and community colleges to improve this process for all involved, and are thrilled that such a forward-thinking institution has decided to partner with us to improve access for college bound students,” said ConnectEdu President Craig Powell.

The growth of Connect! in Missouri, particularly the Northwest corner, is particularly momentous for Powell, ConnectEdu President and Founder. Powell is a native of Maryville and a 1995 graduate of Maryville High School. His parents, Jeff and Mary Jane Powell currently reside in Maryville. Powell’s own experiences with the college planning process led him to establish ConnectEdu back in 2002. The former Maryville wrestler is now committed to providing students and parents the tools they need to make informed college planning and financial aid decisions.

ConnectEdu currently has five full time staff members working with both high school and college partners in the state of Missouri.
