Johnson County Community College First in Kansas to Partner with ConnectEdu

Boston, Mass. – June 14, 2007 – ConnectEdu, the nation’s leading provider of innovative college planning, admissions and financial aid solutions, today announced its partnership with Johnson County Community College to deploy the Connect!® online portal. As the first institution of higher education in Kansas to introduce Connect!®, Johnson County Community College will lead the state initiative to support Kansas high school students, parents and guidance counselors in the college planning and application process, while modernizing the application process. High schools including Shawnee Mission School District, Manhattan High School, Lawrence High School and Lawrence Free State High School are among the first high schools to join Connect! at no charge to directly integrate with institutions of higher education in Kansas.

By sponsoring the free implementation of high schools in Kansas, Johnson County Community College has become a leader in expanding the Connect! nationwide “going to college” network into the State of Kansas. Designed with customized online tools for each user – students, parents, counselors & admission officers - Connect! provides one centralized platform that, for the first time, systematically connects secondary education to higher education through secure web technology. Already an innovator in building paperless admissions, Johnson County Community College is positioned to be the first in Kansas to begin meeting new students through Connect!’s secure, gated community to then electronically receive their application materials, including transcripts and recommendation letters, using XML data exchange. Johnson County Community College will also use Connect! to manage articulation agreements and exchange transcripts with four-year schools thereby streamlining the transfer process for their current students.

“Johnson County Community College is pleased to become the first institution of higher education in the state to partner with ConnectEdu,” said MargE Shelley, Director of Enrollment Management. “JCCC and ConnectEdu share a common goal of making the community college experience a positive one for students. Not only does this allow us to partner with high schools and other institutions of higher education, it gives us the opportunity to assist students in the transition to college and in the transfer process between colleges. We are very excited about this new relationship with ConnectEdu.”

Johnson County Community College joins a national campaign to provide high schools the Connect! platform at no charge to students, parents or guidance counselors. ConnectEdu will be working with Johnson County Community College to begin connecting high schools and colleges in Kansas. Additional progressive colleges committed to this national initiative include University of Connecticut, Rutgers University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Missouri State University, Northwest Missouri State University and Truman State University. By sponsoring the implementation of Connect! in all Kansas high schools and encouraging all Kansas colleges and universities to connect, Johnson County Community College demonstrates its commitment to democratizing college admissions and creating greater access to higher education through new technology.

“ConnectEdu is focused on the success of students,” said Craig Powell, President of ConnectEdu. “We created Connect! to simplify the admissions, financial aid and career planning processes so everyone involved in helping student’s succeed has more opportunities to counsel them as they make one of the most important decisions of their lives. Our partnership with Johnson County Community College represents a major step toward simplifying college access and the transfer process for families in Kansas.”
