First University in Pennsylvania to Deploy Connect!, a Web-Based Solution for College Planning and Admissions
Boston, Mass. – June 25, 2007 – ConnectEdu, the nation’s leading provider of innovative college admissions, financial aid and career planning solutions, today announced its partnership with the University of Pittsburgh to deploy the Connect!® online portal. As the first institution of higher education in Pennsylvania to introduce Connect!®, University of Pittsburgh will lead the state initiative to support Pennsylvania high school students, parents and guidance counselors in the college planning and application process, while modernizing admissions.
The University of Pittsburgh joins a national network of high schools, community colleges, colleges and universities that have embraced the unique web-based service to simplify the “going to college” process for everyone engaged in student success. Designed with customized online tools for each user category, Connect! provides one centralized platform that, for the first time, systematically connects secondary education to higher education through secure web technology. University of Pittsburgh is positioned to be the first in Pennsylvania to begin electronically receiving application materials, including transcripts and recommendation letters, using XML data exchange and will also begin meeting new students through Connect!'s secure, gated community.
“University of Pittsburgh is pleased to become the first university in Pennsylvania to partner with ConnectEdu,” said Dr. Betsy Porter, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. “As we continue to increase enrollment, we believe Connect! and its network of national and regional high schools, offers us the ability both to provide access to a larger group of college bound students, and make sure we are attracting students that will be successful here at Pitt.”
University of Pittsburgh joins a national campaign to provide high schools the Connect! platform at no charge to students, parents or guidance counselors. ConnectEdu will be working with the University of Pittsburgh and its institutions statewide to begin connecting high schools in Pennsylvania to build a regional network. Additional progressive colleges committed to this initiative include University of Connecticut, Rutgers University, Old Dominion University, Towson University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Missouri State University and Truman State University. By sponsoring the implementation of Connect!in all Pennsylvania schools and encouraging all Pennsylvania and universities to connect, University of Pittsburgh demonstrates its commitment to democratizing college admissions and creating greater access to higher education through new technology.
“ConnectEdu is focused on improving student success while insuring that college admissions offices maximize efficiencies,” said Craig Powell, President of ConnectEdu. “We work with institutions of higher education to streamline a process that, over the years, has become too complicated for many students to navigate properly. Our partnership with University of Pittsburgh is a huge step forward in making sure all college-bound students in the state of Pennsylvania have accurate information and the right tools to make informed decisions about their futures."
