ConnectEDU Becomes a Blackboard Signature Partner™

CoursEval™ Survey Software plans closer connection to Blackboard’s Learn™ platform

(BOSTON, MA) December 13, 2010 -- ConnectEDU, Inc., the web-based leader in empowering students to manage their education and launch their career, today announced it has joined the Blackboard Alliance Program TM as a Blackboard Signature Partner.TM

ConnectEDU acquired the CoursEval™ product line from Academic Management Systems (AMS) in September, 2010.

CoursEval™ is a web-based survey system that makes course and instructor evaluation easier, smarter, and less expensive for colleges, universities and health profession schools.  The partnership will allow students in the Blackboard Learn platform to easily access and anonymously complete course evaluations via the MyCoursEval™ Remote Portal Interface.

“Course evaluations are a vital part of every institution’s cycle of education.  As more and more institutions are taking learning online, so too are they taking their course evaluations online.  The ability to report and track institution-wide goals and objectives allows institutions to look at performance at a macro and micro level and improve their instruction both online and in the classroom,” said Matt Small, Blackboard’s Chief Business Officer.

“ConnectEDU’s solutions sit at the intersection point between students, teachers, and administrators. CoursEval™ provides data-driven course and instructor evaluations which are key to a continuous improvement process in the education industry,” commented Craig Powell, Chief Executive Officer of ConnectEDU.  “Partnering with Blackboard through CoursEval allows us to extend that educational strategy.”

ConnectEDU has also announced its intention to provide a similar interface for the Blackboard Learn, ANGEL Edition product, and the ANGEL Learning Management Suite.

SuperAPP™ Helps Time-Pressed Students Securely Meet Fast Approaching College Application Deadlines

With Early December Deadlines Looming, Seamless Online Resource Lets Students Quickly & Efficiently Apply to Multiple Colleges Simultaneously

(BOSTON, MA) November 19, 2010 -- For time-pressed students with higher education on their minds, deadlines for applying to their preferred colleges are fast approaching. Indeed, the vast majority of college applications are due by December 1st. Needless to say, completing the required forms and essays, gathering the necessary transcripts and recommendation letters and then getting them all in on time can weigh heavily on students this time of year.

ConnectEDU makes the college application process infinitely easier with SuperAPP. SuperAPP is a web-based, comprehensive application completion tool that enables students to efficiently manage their data from a single, secure location. In one sitting, students can complete multiple applications simultaneously.
Here’s how it works: Students select the schools they would like to apply to from a list of 1,500 institutions. SuperAPP then creates a single set of interview questions, eliminating duplicates while including all of the unique questions from each of the college applications. Once a student has completed the interview questions, SuperAPP takes his or her answers and then populates each college’s actual application in exact format for submission to the school. Students can also use SuperAPP to pay the application fee for each college using PayPal, Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

“SuperAPP is the fastest and easiest way to apply to college. It eliminates repetition and lets students, parents and guidance counselors track each application, once it’s submitted,” explained Craig Powell, Chief Executive Officer, ConnectEDU. “Perhaps best of all, SuperAPP helps students make informed choices about where they’re going to go to college by expanding their options as well as by presenting scholarship and financial aid opportunities and reminders.”

SuperAPP is a free service, made available to students through a public portal as well as through ConnectEDU’s Connect! platform, which empowers schools to electronically send official transcripts directly to colleges and universities.

High schools are rapidly adopting SuperAPP as the standard for facilitating their students’ college applications. Students connected to high schools adopting SuperAPP have the ability to have transcripts and recommendations uploaded and sent in through the system. SuperAPP also provides early planning information, including details on the GPA needed to get into a specific college program as well as which scholarships are available from each school and how to apply to them. For those students who do not attend school in a district utilizing SuperAPP, a streamlined version is available and still empowers those students to efficiently manage their application process.

SuperAPP is also accessible via websites like YOUniversityTV.com and Zinch.com. SuperAPP is currently available in hundreds of high schools, including several major urban districts such as Baltimore Public Schools, Detroit Public Schools and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. ConnectEDU also recently inked deals with Miami-Dade School District, as well as Massachusetts, Michigan and Texas to develop statewide college and career planning portals.

“While ConnectEDU was created to allow students to apply to colleges in a fast, secure and efficient manner, we also wanted to provide a way for students to plan ahead, learn about their options and begin thinking about the courses they need to take in high school and what GPA they will need to maintain in order to achieve their dreams,” reiterates Craig Powell, CEO of ConnectEDU. “We also focus on educating students, counselors and parents on the many scholarship and financial aid options that exist but aren’t always easy to find. The bottom line is that it’s about planning for the success and future of each and every student.”

Cleveland school district’s chief academic officer, Eric Gordon, was quoted in a New York Times article describing how SuperAPP has relieved some of the burden off of his counselors. “Previously,” he says, “counselors didn’t know what colleges students applied to, and if they didn’t report grades and recommendations in a timely way, the application didn’t get completed.”

SuperAPP™ supports students who use the most popular application formats including: the Common Application®, Universal College Application™, as well as unique applications from 1,500 colleges.  SuperAPP also streamlines the application process for college admissions officers by delivering a full electronic student application to colleges in a single integrated data feed in the preferred format of each college.

ConnectEDU is also poised to debut additional SuperAPP capabilities designed to simplify the process of completing and filing FAFSA and other financial aid forms. The new SuperAPP Financial Aid capability will be available in early 2011. This application will also help keep students on track to re-apply for financial aid at the right time each year to avoid losing their financial support.

Online College & Career Planning Platform Creator, ConnectEDU, Closes $7M Equity Offering Led By Allen & Co.

New Funds Will Fuel Accelerated Growth & Expansion of Regional Service Centers to Support Roll-Out of State-Wide Initiatives, High School, University & Employer Adoption

(BOSTON, MA) November 15, 2010 –ConnectEDU, Inc., (www.connectedu.com) the Boston-based leader in developing online college and career planning tools and platforms, today announced that it has successfully closed a $7 million equity offering, as led by Allen & Co., with the support of the company’s initial group of investors from the education, private equity and Internet industries.

As part of the funding event, Margaret Spellings, former Secretary of Education under the administration of President George W. Bush, has joined ConnectEDU’s Board of Directors along H. Jay Sarles, Operating Advisor to Nautic Partners, LLC and former Vice Chairman of Bank of America.

With this new capital, ConnectEDU plans to leverage the company’s extraordinary growth with regional service centers around the country to support the roll-out of state-wide initiatives and continue to serve existing high school, college and employer partners. The company will also continue to invest in the tools that promote the success of each student, and further build partnerships with education decision-makers at colleges, high schools and at the state level.

“We are empowered by our investors’ continued commitment to our business, as demonstrated by their on-going financial support of our growth. As we have achieved each milestone, our investors’ have continued to fund our efforts to empower students, families and those who serve them in their college and career pursuits,” said Craig Powell, Chief Executive Officer, ConnectEDU. “The funds raised today will enable us to meet the growing demand for ConnectEDU to be the standard for states, high schools and colleges committed to the success of their students and those who serve them. ConnectEDU can now accelerate the expansion of its regional service centers across the country. We will also invest further in the growth of CoursEval, our data-driven evaluation and assessment system, as well as SuperAPP, our online college admissions form completion system.”

Using $8.2 million in capital previously raised in 2009 during a Series C funding round led by Allen & Co and the same group of individual investors, ConnectEDU has secured a leadership position in the market as a student planning resource focused on high school completion as well as creating a college and/or career plan. To do this, ConnectEDU has developed and implemented technology that has helped thousands of students – typically from the most underserved populations - successfully create high school completion pathways, and manage their post-secondary education plans with the goal of launching a successful career path. All of ConnectEDU’s products integrate with the Connect! platform and user community, which allows students, counselors, admission officers, career advisors, academic advisors and employers to interact, advise and purposefully network with students throughout the college and career planning process. ConnectEDU is the only company to fully integrate with high school student information systems to use actual student data to benchmark progress against a high school completion, college and career plan.

In the past year, ConnectEDU has seen rapid growth with high schools adopting the Connect! High School Suite, including SuperAPP, as the standard for facilitating their students’ college application submissions. SuperAPP is currently available in hundreds of high schools, including several major urban districts such as Baltimore Public Schools, Detroit Public Schools and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. ConnectEDU also recently inked deals with Miami-Dade School District, as well as the States of Massachusetts, Michigan and Texas to develop statewide college and career planning portals. In the past year, ConnectEDU’s network (“The Connect! Community”) has grown to include 5 million high school and college aged students, 2,500 high schools, 450 colleges, and nearly 50 employers.

“While ConnectEDU was created to allow student’s to plan ahead, learn about their options and begin thinking of the courses they need to take in high school and what curriculum they need to pursue in order to achieve the dream of maximizing their career choice, we are also focused on eliminating the processing hurdles associated with students moving from high school to college by making the college application form completion process informative, fast, secure and efficient for all parties involved,” said Craig Powell, Chief Executive Officer, ConnectEDU. “As part of
this effort we are also very focused on educating students, counselors and parents on the many scholarships and financial aid options that exist but aren’t always easy to find or easy to apply for.”

ConnectEDU is poised to debut additional SuperAPP capabilities designed to simplify the process of completing and filing FAFSA and other financial aid forms. The new SuperAPP Financial Aid capability will be available in early 2011, in time for the financial aid season. This application will also help keep students on track to re-apply for financial aid at the right time each year to avoid losing their financial support.

College Essay Organizer and ConnectEDU Announce Innovative Partnership

College Essay Organizer is Integrated into ConnectEDU to Help Guide Students and Counselors through College Admissions Process

NEW YORK, June 24, 2010 – College Essay Organizer (‘CEO’), the web-based college essay management tool, announced today that it has joined forces with leading online educational platform ConnectEDU, further streamlining the college admissions process for students, parents, and counselors.

CEO’s groundbreaking technology instantly provides each student with all essay questions for any selected colleges and delivers a personalized plan for writing the fewest essays that work for all questions. The results are less time, less stress, and more attention to the actual writing process resulting in better essays.
“For applicants looking to stand out, personal essays are of the utmost importance,” says Daniel Stern, President of College Essay Organizer. With long, short, department-specific, scholarship, and optional questions, many students are surprised to learn they have 15 or more essays to write, and they don’t know where or how to begin. Even if students use the Common App, they typically have to write many different supplemental essays for their colleges. “If a student can see how to write, say, only 3 essays instead of 15, that student is going to write more compelling essays. We developed CEO so students and those who support them could optimize their time, and the results have been sensational.”

With a network of 2 million users, ConnectEDU develops innovative technology to enable students to successfully manage their educational and career plans. Its data-driven solution helps to bridge the transitions between high school, college, and career, by making certain that students take the necessary steps at the right time to reach their goals.

“We are excited to partner with CEO and to have the opportunity to offer this valuable tool to our students,” says Craig Powell, Chief Executive Officer of ConnectEDU. “This partnership furthers our goal of helping more students successfully transition from high school to college.”

CEO looks forward to extending its unique technology to ConnectEDU’s existing platform. The partnership of these pioneering educational organizations will make the college application process as efficient and successful as possible.

State of Texas Selects ConnectEDU to Create an Online Resource to Help Students Transition to College and Careers

(Boston, MA) April 26, 2010 – The Texas Education Agency, in conjunction with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, announced that they have selected ConnectEDU to develop their Online College Preparation Assistance Pilot Program. This program will help high school students manage the complex college selection and application process.

The pilot program will provide free college and career preparation tools for students and families in Texas in a single online resource. Counselors, teachers, and administrators will also benefit from using this resource. The Online College Preparation Assistance Pilot Program will bring together critical information in one easily accessible place to assist students in preparing for college.

Barbara Knaggs, TEA’s associate commissioner for state initiatives, said, “We are excited about working with our partners to provide this opportunity to the thousands of Texas students who will be participating in the pilot program. We believe this program will help students successfully transition from high school to college or career.”

“This pilot project complements the joint work that the TEA and Coordinating Board have done with the College and Career Readiness Standards,” said Dr. Judith Loredo, Coordinating Board assistant commissioner for P-16 Initiatives.

A growing body of research points to the importance of guidance, information, and support in helping students apply to and pay for college. In order to be successful, students must complete a series of specific tasks, many of which are time dependent. This resource uses state-of-the-art technology and individualized student data to help students stay on track to graduate and to effectively navigate the college search, application, and selection process or take the steps necessary to successfully transition directly to a career.

“We are particularly excited to be working with the State of Texas to help implement this pilot program, and we look forward to working with them to make a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of students,” said Craig Powell, CEO, ConnectEDU. “We applaud Texas for leading the nationwide charge to implement college and career readiness standards and meeting the challenge of providing better assistance for students as they transition from high school to college or career. This pilot will provide students and families throughout Texas with a personalized tool that will help streamline the college and career planning process, while helping to achieve the state’s goal of graduating all Texas high school students ready for college and career success.”

The tools that will be available include: college search and match tools, managing and tracking multiple college applications, financial aid resources, personalized student portfolios, and career assessment and planning.

About The CODiE Awards
The CODiE Awards, originally called the Excellence in Software Awards, were established in 1986 by the Software Publishers Association (SPA), now the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), so that pioneers of the then-nascent software industry could evaluate and honor each other’s work. Since then, the CODiE Awards program has carried out the same purpose – to showcase the software and information industry’s finest products and services and to honor excellence in corporate achievement and philanthropic efforts.

The CODiE Awards hold the distinction of being the industry’s only peer-reviewed awards program, which provides member companies with a unique opportunity to earn praise from their competitors. Now in its twenty-fourth year, the CODiE Awards program has raised the standard for excellence and serves as prestigious representation of outstanding achievement and vision in the software and information industry.

State of Michigan to Offer Comprehensive College and Career Planning Services On-Line to all Michigan Families

The State of Michigan Today Announced a Partnership with ConnectEDU to Provide Industry-Leading Solutions to Support Student Participation and Improve Success Rates of Finding, Pursuing and Obtaining a Higher Education Degree and Career Path

(Lansing, MI) February 10, 2010 – The Michigan Department of Treasury, in partnership with the Michigan College Access Network, today announced the start of the Michigan College Access Portal (MiCAP). The portal is a statewide initiative which will provide free support for all students and families in Michigan to simplify the process of transitioning from high school to college and career. The State has worked to identify the best possible services available to families nationwide and to bring those cutting edge solutions to every student and every family in Michigan. Upon completion of the project, students, parents, counselors and adult learners will have easy-to-use web-based, personalized tools to insure that each step in the process of choosing and applying to college is completed successfully. In addition, Michigan students will be able to garner critical information regarding career choices and will be able to map a plan of action to achieve their aspirations. The tools that will be available will assist in the following critical action areas: proper high school course selection, financial planning and literacy, securing financial aid, grants and scholarships, college applications, and career assessment and planning.

At the unveiling of the plans to create the Michigan College Access Network in April 2009, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm stated “The future will be here tomorrow – that’s why all Michigan students must start planning today for the education and careers they will pursue after high school.” The Michigan College Access Network exists to dramatically increase Michigan’s college participation and completion rates, particularly among low-income and first-generation students.

“We are pleased to partner with the State of Michigan,” said Craig Powell, CEO, ConnectEDU. “We are excited by the governor’s leadership and vision and are confident that with her support and the State’s commitment, we are on the way to creating a new model for education and career planning, recruitment, transition and re-training. The new college and career planning portal is a natural extension of the hard work we have been doing to empower students, high schools and colleges in the State of Michigan over the past several years.”

ConnectEDU Expands Team to Help Address Critical Areas of Education Reform

Addition of Former Governor of Massachusetts Jane Swift Will be Pivotal in Company’s Work with State Leaders Nationwide to Implement Innovative Technology Solutions

(Boston, MA) January 27, 2010- ConnectEDU, (www.connectedu.net) the Web-based leader in empowering students to manage their education and launch their career, today announced it is increasing its emphasis on providing innovative solutions to the public education market with the addition of former Governor of Massachusetts, Jane Swift, as Senior Vice President of Government Solutions and Strategy.

“At this critical time when education and political leaders of both parties recognize the importance of not only ensuring that public high schools have the resources they need to be effective but also supporting all students in their transition to college and career, I am thrilled to be working for a company whose mission and services are aimed squarely at solving these challenges by leveraging cutting edge technology,” said Swift. “Education stakeholders nationwide are looking for innovative and cost-effective solutions to insure that more students are college and career ready when they graduate from high school. My new role at ConnectEDU provides me with an opportunity to help both students and our public schools be successful.”

ConnectEDU works with students, families, high schools, districts, states, employers and community based organizations across the country to further student access to post-secondary institutions. The company also supports student exploration of possible careers, designs individualized pathways to pursue those careers and enables students to interact with professionals in career fields that interest them. The innovative technology deployed by ConnectEDU has proven to be particularly powerful in meeting the needs of traditionally underserved student populations.

Jane Swift served as Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 2001-2003, the first woman to achieve this post, capping more than a decade of distinguished public service. As a three-term State Senator, Swift helped draft the landmark 1993 Education Reform Act. As Lieutenant Governor and subsequently Governor, Swift implemented critical components of the new law. Under her leadership, the U.S. Department of Education declared the Massachusetts public school system a national model for success.

Most recently, Swift served as General Partner at Arcadia Partners, the leading venture capital firm focused exclusively on the education industry, from 2003 to 2006. In 2007, Swift founded WNP Consulting, providing expert advice and counsel to early-stage education companies including ConnectEDU.

Swift remains a tireless advocate for excellence in public education and is well-respected as a thought leader by stakeholders across the education industry. Swift serves on the board of K12, Inc. (LRN), a publicly-traded technology-based education company, and on the Board of Sally Ride Science, a science content company dedicated to supporting youth interest in science, math and technology.

“The addition of Jane Swift represents the continued acceleration of our growth and commitment to attracting top notch talent to our management team,” said Craig Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer at ConnectEDU. “At this critical time for education when reform decisions are being made at the state and national level, Jane brings both experience and deep industry knowledge in education and policy to extend our reach and intensify our impact at the government level.”

Cleveland Metropolitan School District Selects ConnectEDU’s SuperAPP™

Becomes 2nd Major Urban Area in the U.S. to Adopt Electronic Application Processing Solution to Help Students and Their Counselors Streamline the College Application Process

(Boston, MA) January 12, 2010– ConnectEDU, (www.connectedu.net) the Web-based leader in empowering students to manage their education and launch their career, today announced that the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) will standardize its college admissions process using SuperAPP™ across all 22 high schools in its district. To more quickly and efficiently provide students with a formal process to send every aspect of their applications electronically in the format of their choice or a colleges’ preference, CMSD will be implementing SuperAPP™ as part of a new college planning Seminar Series for all of its students.

“We believe the secure, accurate and electronic transfer of student data and application materials from high schools to colleges is a key element of a revamped college application process,” said Eric Gordon, Chief Academic Officer, Cleveland Metropolitan School District. “Through the use of SuperAPP™ we are hoping to positively impact both our students and guidance counselors by providing them with the advanced technology and tools they require to make more informed college choices and better manage the entire process electronically. This will ensure students are able to make selections that best fit with their educational and career aspirations and will allow our counselors to spend more time assisting students and less time focused on the paper-based administrative aspects of the application process.”

SuperAPP™ is a comprehensive electronic application processing solution that facilitates the entire application process, including official transcripts, letters of recommendation, college essays, high school profile and the application from a single, secure location. An application processing solution, as opposed to an application format, SuperAPP™ uses and supports all of the most popular application formats including: The Common Application®, Universal College Application™, and unique applications for more than 1,400 colleges nationwide. SuperAPP™ streamlines the application process for college admission officers by delivering a full electronic student application to the colleges in a single integrated data feed and in the preferred format.

“We are excited about the rapid market adoption of SuperAPP™ both at the high school and college levels,” added Craig Powell, Chief Executive Officer, ConnectEDU. “Since we announced the solution in late September 2009 we have signed on 150 college partners in addition to the Baltimore Public Schools and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District- two of the major urban high school districts in the country. With the creation of the Race to the Top grants, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, we anticipate more high school districts throughout the country will join us as they see firsthand how SuperAPP can assist with the critical need to increase college enrollment rates and track college applications.”
